Welcome

I now want to introduce you to a whole other world of plants. We are now entering the strange and beautiful world of geophytic Pelargoniums that are for those of you who want to say "I have plants that no one else does.......or very few people do"

Geophytic pelargoniums come to us from Africa. They grow best in the winter, so will do amazingly well outside in the southern parts and coastal ranges of our country. That they do well outside there does not mean they cannot be grown anywhere else in the U.S.

We grow them here in Northern Washington in a greenhouse as well as my house. They do well in an Eastern window and like it cool. Not too much water either, thank you. And if you use a good potting mix, no fertilizer. These plants are huge tubers that sort of resemble petrified elephant droppings or browned turnips and thankfully most of that tuber if not all is under the ground awaiting the call to come forth with all sorts of interesting green leaves.

Some of these plants were saved from extinction from people building parking lots and supermarkets. Growers recognized what they were and took them home to grow and florish in their greenhouses. I got lucky and found plants that are not native to North America.

Yes, they are pricey. No, not as bad as orchids and sooooo very much easier to grow.

So, are you ready to take a chance? You will be very happy , and when you see the blooms, you will be very, very, happy. What? I should tell you the colors and spoil the surprise? Okay, a small hint. Ever see a yellow Geranium?
